สมัชชาสงฆ์ไทยในสหรัฐอเมริกา ขอร่วมรำลึกถึงและแผ่บุญกุศลให้กับผู้สูญเสีย ในเหตุการณ์ก่อการร้าย ๑๑ กันยายน ๒๕๔๔ (2001) ณ มหานครนิวยอร์คและกรุงวอชิงตัน ดีซี ๒  ปีผ่านมา.. ยังไม่เลือนหายไปจากความทรงจำ จึงขอนำบทความของหลวงพ่อพระธรรมปิฎก (ป.อ. ปยุตฺโต) มาย้ำเตือนสติสำหรับผู้ที่ยังต้องดำรงชีวิตอยู่อีกครั้ง ขอนิมนต์วัดทุกวัดทั่วสหรัฐอเมริการ่วมมาติกา-บังสกุล แผ่เมตตาอุทิศบุญกุศลให้แก่ผู้สูญเสียในเหตุการณ์ครั้งนี้ หลังทำวัตรเย็น ในวันพฤหัสบดีที่ ๑๑ กันยายน ๒๕๔๖ โดยพร้อมเพรียงกัน อุทิศกุศลแก่ผู้ที่จากไป ให้สันติสุขแก่ทุกคนที่ยังอยู่ การก่อการร้าย  ทำลายสถานที่สำคัญ  ในมหานครนิวยอร์ค  และกรุงวอชิงตัน ดีซี  เมื่อวันอังคารที่ ๑๑ กันยายน ๒๕๔๔ นี้  เป็นเหตุการณ์ร้ายแรงในประวัติศาสตร์  ที่จะฝังใจอยู่ในความทรงจำของมนุษย์ทั่วโลกไปอีกนาน  การก่อการร้ายนี้  เป็นบาปกรรมที่ก่อทุกข์แก่เพื่อนมนุษย์จำนวนมาก  คนหลายพันถึงแก่ความตาย  และสูญหายไป  หลายหมื่นหรือหลายแสนคน  พลัดพรากจากญาติมิตรและคนผู้เป็นที่รัก  ทรัพย์สินสูญสิ้นไปมากมายเท่าใด  ไม่ต้องกล่าวถึง เราชาวพุทธทั้งปวงถือว่า  ทุกชีวิตล้วนสำคัญและมีคุณค่า  มนุษย์ทุกคนเป็นเพื่อนร่วม เกิด แก่ เจ็บ ตาย  ทุกคนไม่ควรเบียดเบียนกัน  แต่ควรช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูลกัน เราขอแสดงความเห็นใจต่อทุกคนที่ประสบทุกข์ภัย  และขออุทิศส่วนกุศลแก่ผู้จากไป   สำหรับคนที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่  เหตุการณ์ร้ายนี้เป็นเครื่องเตือนใจให้ระลึกถึงธรรม  คือ หลักความจริงว่า  ในระยะยาว  และตามวิถีแห่งธรรมดา  เราไม่อาจระงับทุกข์ด้วยการก่อทุกข์  ไม่อาจระงับภัยด้วยการเพิ่มภัย  และไม่อาจระงับเวรด้วยการจองเวร  เหตุการณ์น่าเศร้านี้  เป็นบททดสอบอารยธรรมของมนุษยชาติว่า  มนุษย์มีความเจริญเติบโตทางจิตใจและทางปัญญา  พอที่จะแก้ปัญหาพื้นฐานของมนุษย์ด้วยวิธีการที่ถูกต้อง  และจะสร้างสรรค์โลกที่เป็นสุข  ไร้การเบียดเบียนขึ้นได้หรือไม่  การแก้ปัญหาที่แท้จริง  จะสำเร็จได้ด้วยการใช้ปัญญา  โดยจิตใจที่ประกอบด้วยเมตตา  มีไมตรี  คือ ความรักใคร่  ปรารถนาดีต่อเพื่อนมนุษย์  อย่างไม่จำกัดขอบเขต  ไม่มีประมาณ  ไม่มีการเดียดฉันท์  แบ่งแยกอย่างใดๆ   ขอสันติสุขจงมีแก่สรรพสัตว์ พระธรรมปิฎก (ป.อ. ปยุตฺโต) ๒๒  กันยายน  ๒๕๔๔ Share merit with the departed; Share peace and happiness with alive.      The terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C. on Tuesday,  September 11, 2001, are historical catastrophic events that will long endure in human memory. They have caused indescribable anguish to many of our fellow human beings. Thousands of people prished.  Many more have been separeted from their loved ones; not to speak of the loss of property .  All beings are  equally friends before the law of nature as they all were born in this natural word order,  being equally subject to birth, aging, ailment and death. One should do no harm to any other. But everyone should be helpful to all others.  We, all Buddhists, respect all lives, deeming any harm or abuse against any of them an evil act. We all here deeply sympathize with all those who suffer from this calanity and share our merit with all the departed.  For all that are still living, this tragic event should remind them of the truth that, in the long run and in the real course of things, suffering cannot be eradicated by causing more suffering, fere cannot be relieved by fear, and hatred cannot be appeased by hatred. This momentous event is a test of the authenticity and soundness of our human civilization. We all the so-called civikized people, seen to have been put on a trial, to see whether we are intellectually and emotionally mature enough to deal with basic human problems in a right way and to create a peaceful and happy world free violence. The real solution of human problems can be achieved, through relying on the full resources of wisdom by the minds filled with love, friendliness and compassion towards all beings, that is limitless, unbounded without distinction or discrimination of any kind.
